永尾かね駒製作所 肥後守 笹刃型 黒

日本で戦前から使われていた折込式刃物「肥後守」。シンプルな構造と実用性の高さから、長く愛され続けている日本の伝統的なナイフです。

使用時には「チキリ」と呼ばれる突起部分を親指で押さえることでブレードを固定する仕組み。
ロック機構を持たないシンプルな構造ながら、扱いに慣れることで安心して使用できます。

1890年代頃に誕生したとされ、戦後は鉛筆削りとして子どもたちに広く使われてきました。現在では文房具としての役割は減りましたが、日本の刃物文化を象徴する存在として、今なお兵庫県三木市の職人によって作り続けられています。

A traditional Japanese folding knife known as “Higonokami,” made by Nagao Kanekoma Seisakusho.

This simple yet highly practical design has been used in Japan since before World War II and continues to be appreciated for its durability and ease of use.

The blade is secured by pressing the extended tang, called “Chikiri,” with your thumb during use. While it does not have a locking mechanism, its straightforward construction allows for reliable handling once accustomed.

Believed to have originated in the 1890s, the Higonokami became widely used as a pencil-sharpening tool among children in post-war Japan. Today, although its role as stationery has declined, it remains an iconic representation of Japanese knife culture, still handcrafted in Miki City, Hyogo.
